The Annual 6th Grade Luncheon
Pacific School 5th graders will be serving the staff and the 6th grade class a beautifully prepared lunch on Wednesday, May 31st at 1pm. Please plan to pick up your 5th and 6th grade students at 2:30pm. Thank you for allowing them the extra time for this wonderful tradition!

Preschool is Accepting Students
Learn more about our outstanding preschool and please help spread the word about student openings. Preschool trifold. As preschool funding is based upon enrollment, your help recruiting students makes a huge impact on our ability to maintain the program. Income-qualified families can receive high-quality preschool for FREE, a rare opportunity in our county.
Room for a few upper-grade students
Pacific Elementary School has openings for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in the Independent Study program and 4th graders in the 5-day program for the upcoming school year (2017-2018). Our students benefit from several unique signature programs and enrichment programs, which make our school a leader in innovative experiential learning. Pacific School accepts a limited number of out-of-district students, based on space available and the school's adopted New Family Enrollment policies. Please spread the word about our amazing school!

FoodLab Announcements for 2017-2018
In order to continue to serve our children the best school lunches available anywhere, next year (2017-2018) the cost of a full-priced student lunch will increase 10 cents to $3.60 and adult lunches will increase 65 cents to $5.65. Free or Reduced Price Lunch Applications for 2017-2018 will be available in the office and on our website in August.

Life Lab Garden
Who: Kindergarten through 4th grade students receive 50-minute classes every week. New this year, preschoolers also have regular visits from our garden teacher, Trish. Additional instruction is provided by classroom teachers and/or parent volunteers. We are one of a few school programs in the nation that has year-round weekly gardening classes for our students.
The Pacific Elementary School library will not be checking out any books for the 2017 school year after May 15. Please help your student return all of their borrowed books by that date. Thank you.
School Library Wish List: If you would like to donate books in honor of a child's birthday, we are offering special "Birthday Book Club" plates for those books. Please pick titles from the school library book wish list. Thank you!

The Santa Cruz Public Library Bookmobile in Davenport: The Bookmobile visits every other Monday at 2:30 p.m. Everyone should have a library card---you can get a card for yourself or a child at the bookmobile! Visit the Bookmobile soon and raise a reader.
Monterey Bay Youth Outdoor Day: Monterey Bay Youth Outdoor Day is a totally free event open to the public. Our focus is to get kids interested in the many outdoor activities that are right here in our back yard. With over forty different organizations represented, there is something for everyone! Our next event is May 12th and 13th, 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Santa Cruz County Fair Grounds. More details: English and Spanish (PDF).
25th Anniversary Speaker Series at the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center: "Sea Below the Surface" on Wednesday, May 17 at 6 PM - 7:30 PM Upcoming speaker series that will present the status and trends of key species, habitats, and resources of the sanctuary over the past 25 years. This four part series will feature local marine scientists and highlight incredibly valued research partnerships that help to inform science conservation and resource protection within the sanctuary. Dr. Mark Carr, professor at the Institute of Marine Science, will discuss "Recent changes in coastal ecosystems of the sanctuary: understanding their causes and consequences." Come celebrate 25 years of protecting our estuarine, nearshore, offshore and seamount environments!
