Welcome to Alyssa Wall, who will be teaching 4th grade in 2021!
Hi Students, Staff, and Families!
My name is Alyssa Wall and I am SO excited to be joining the Pacific Elementary School team. I was born and raised in San Jose, but I recently moved to La Selva Beach with my partner and two year old puppy! When I’m not working with students, I enjoy going on long walks, riding my bike, swimming in the ocean, and trying out fun new recipes! I am passionate about visiting new places and look forward to the day where we can travel safely again- fun fact: I have visited 37 countries!
I have always known that I was meant to be an educator. As an elementary schooler, I asked my parents for a classroom sized whiteboard for my birthday. I would create lesson plans and worksheets and force my little brother to play school with me for hours! Motivated to have my own classroom one day, I earned my B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development from San Jose State University. I earned my teaching credential and M.A. in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University and I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from The University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign. I am proud to be the first person in my family to earn a B.A., M.A., and soon to be Ed.D!
I have dedicated my entire career to education. As a college student, I worked in summer camps, after school programs, and science camps to gain experience with children. I even had the opportunity to shadow and learn from teachers in Ghana, Nepal, Costa Rica and Thailand! For the past four years I have been exploring different career paths to find my place in the education field. I have been employed as a 5th grade teacher, college lecturer, college advisor, and was recently elected to represent Trustee Area 5 on the Santa Cruz County Board of Education.
The last year has given me the time and space to reflect on my strengths, interests, passions, and values. Words can not begin to explain the excitement and joy I feel to be heading back to the classroom. One of my biggest priorities as an educator is to create a classroom culture that is inclusive and safe. I love my students fiercely and strive to create a classroom community rooted in trust and kindness. I believe all learning should be hands-on and engaging, and as a diverse learner myself, it is important that each and every one of my students feels that they can grasp the curriculum that is put in front of them. During such challenging times, my goal is to make sure my classroom is a bright spot for my students and their families.
I am looking forward to becoming a part of your community. Should you have any questions, comments, or just want to say hello, please feel free to reach out to me at any time!
