The November lunch menu is now available online. The schools' fresh and wholesome school lunches cost $3.50 per lunch for students; adults, $5 per lunch. Thank you for purchasing your lunches in advance---make sure you've paid for November's lunches. Children are encouraged to participate in the school lunch program, but may also bring lunches from home.
Lunchtime Safety Reminder: Please keep all children under the age of 7 (including babies and toddlers) safe by making sure they stay off the big playground during the hours 12:30 -1 PM. If you are staying for lunch, please have your children stay with you while while you eat either in the lower grades lunchroom or at the tables on the ocean side of the building. Our goal is to keep everyone safe during recess.
Potato Night is coming...
Join us on Friday, November 4th, 5:30 - 7:30pm for a night of family fun including a potato-themed potluck and revelry --- it's a silly notion, a fun evening, and a Pacific School Tradition. Come celebrate starchy tubers! We'll eat potatoes, decorate potatoes, and play games featuring... you guessed it! potatoes.
Did you know?
Student Health: Dogs and Animal Droppings: "Please help keep our campus clean and protect our students from exposure to animal droppings (both wild and domestic). Please keep gates closed at all times and keep dogs off school grounds."
School Programs: Field Study: "Pacific School is dedicated to hands-on real-world learning, including field trips. Teachers make extensive use of learning opportunities within walking distance, including citizen science projects using the local San Vicente Creek and the Davenport Beaches. Students in all grades have opportunities to participate in local and more distant field trips at various times during each school year which relate to and enhance the curriculum. Fifth and sixth grade students participate in an Environmental Living History Program (“ELP”). The National Park Service and the State Park Service administer Environmental Living History Programs. The overnight programs offer the children the unique opportunity to “turn back the clock” and relive history at historic sites. Classroom preparation and follow-up are major parts of the program. The children respond with enormous enthusiasm to actively investigating history, culture, and environment."

Life Lab Update
It has been a beautiful fall in the garden. Thanks to great summer volunteers our garden has provided: beans, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, winter squash, apples, lettuce, and soon to be harvested popcorn. Many flowers are still blooming and the recent rain has been like a vitamin boost to the garden.
We have been planting cool season crops including: peas, kale, lettuce, chard, beets, carrots, and flowers.
Your kids are not just co-caretakers in our living laboratory, they are learners! Here's a brief summary of what we have been up to:
Orchard Project Update
Work has begun on the $1,000 grant funding we received from CA Foundation for Ag in the Classroom and California Certified Organic Farmers to install an organic fruit tree orchard. Look for the tree planting markers on the east slope of the schoolyard. The orchard project will engage all grade levels in various aspects of orchard installation and care. This week 5th/6th graders prepped the planting holes by weeding, digging, cover-cropping and mulching. Apple, citrus, avocado, and persimmon trees will be planted this winter and spring.
On November 17th the California Certified Organic Farmers Board of Directors will be making a special visit to our school for lunch and will be checking the progress of our orchard.
Pacific School Wins Golden Seed Award
Pacific School is one of six districts in the state to be awarded the top prize of the California Farm to School Network's Golden Seed Award for demonstrating staying power in gardening, local food procurement, and nutrition education.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 13th, 5:30pm at Rosey McCann’s and you're invited to join.
