A Hybrid Parent-Involvement Classroom and Home Study Program
NOTE: Pacific School's Independent Study Program currently has openings in some grade levels for 2020-21. Please complete this form to express interest in enrolling: INTEREST FORM 2020-21.
IMPORTANT NOTES for 2020-21: The classroom teaching schedule described below represents our plan for 2020-21 prior to the outbreak of COVID-19. We expect that it may be necessary to make modifications of the schedule for 2020-21 to accommodate public health recommendations and requirements.
In 2019-20 we noticed that the Independent Study students, families, and teachers were able to transition relatively smoothly between partial classroom instruction and distance-learning. We anticipate that it is likely some amount of distance-learning may be required during 2020-21 as well. We believe that the flexibility and parent involvement in the IS program will allow IS students to experience relative continuity and minimal disruption during what is likely to be an unpredictable year.
Families interested in full-time home study with no classroom component should consider Pacific School's new Home Study Program.
Overview (Class schedule details are subject to change for 2020-21 to accommodate public health recommendations.)
The Independent Study (IS) offers a unique blend of classroom, home, and field education:
Kara Nickel is the teacher for the kindergarten through second grade classroom, and Mia Huynh is the teacher for the third through sixth grade classroom.
New IS Families should review the IS Master Agreement and the IS Handbook which provides detailed logistical information relating to the program.
